Learn to design websites Joomla in 5 easy steps

To design Joomla websites, you only need to follow five simple steps. While many Joomla website designers try to overcomplicate the process, not necessarily so.

Without wasting your time and mine, here are the five steps you should take. Note, however, that these are sequential steps. This means that you must do that first first, followed by the second, etc. While it can sometimes be able to build a Joomla site without actually following some of these steps sequentially, you better not do it. you'll see why, as we move.

So here's what you have to do.

Install Joomla: well, you can actually do anything until after the installation of Joomla on your website.
There are a number of ways to do it. One of the two most common is to install the CMS using "Fantastico" on your hosting account, control panel. This takes about 3 minutes or less and is the easiest and simplest installation of Joomla. The other way is to manually install. Therefore, you must load the package installation of Joomla on your website. You will then follow the instructions to install it from there. Configure Joomla:
After you have successfully installed Joomla, you can now login to Joomla Admin area or Backend to configure it. The admin area's directory is the directory of your Joomla site/administrator. Therefore, if-for example-you have installed Joomla on mywebsite.com, your admin area will be mywebsite.com/administrator. Once logged in, select the tab "Site" on the left and click on the link in the "global" configuration. Follow the instructions here to configure your site, the server and the information system. This can take anything from 3 to 10 minutes to finish. Create content of Joomla: the next step necessary to design your Joomla site is to create content sections, categories and pages or content elements.Content sections are wider divisions of content on your Joomla website.Categories are the sub-sectors of content for each section. content items, pages or articles (as they are called variously) are the pieces of content that are placed in each category; for example, to find your article "How to design to Joomla Website" or the page on your website, I may have to go to CMS section, select the category of Joomla and we will find the article "How to Design Joomla Websites" or page. This hierarchy contained will look like this:

Section == == === > Category > Item/page content.

It's just a very simple way and organized to manage your content in Joomla. Note that you can have many content sections, categories or content pages as you want.
Is practically unlimited. So, if you are designing an article by Joomla directory or just a simple niche Web site, yet you find that the CMS Joomla will serve your purpose all the same.Create menus: site navigation system or the Joomla menu is divided into categories. So, for example, may have a category from the menu to your paid products, another one for your freebies and another for your niche articles. Now, within each category you will need to menu items. So, if you want-for example-to have your paid products accessible from the same category from the menu, then, can have a category of "Internet Marketing products" from the menu.Under this, you will have a single menu item that links to your eBook blogging, another menu item linking to your "social network" of the course; and still yet another one that points to your site traffic generation membership. and so on. Also you can have any of the menu item select a content section, category or page of your website simple. it's creativity.Edit and Customize the site: a good reason for designing websites Joomla is that you actually can change and customize your Joomla site as much or as much as you want. Thus, we can both be using the same model, for example, but each of us can change the template and rearrange the modules so that the finished Web site cannot look something similar to the original site "you can customize your Joomla website from:

-Installation of new models and modifying them to suit your taste.
Edit and customize existing templates that come with Joomla
-Installation of new Joomla components
-Installation and edit forms and change their positions on the website.
-And much more ...

You can perform these and more from the "Extensions" tab in your Admin area.

While these are the five major steps to help you design websites Joomla, the details of doing so are not as easy as they are simple. and here's why Muhammad Jalloh has created over four hours of video Joomla Tutorial to learn how to design, customize and manage your Joomla site. you can find more details on http://www.joomlasultan.com.

More information on how to change the logo in a Joomla site

There are many things that a Joomla developer can occur that seem pretty easy to do, but I'm really not easily answered. For example, change the default logo on a website Joomla seems simple enough, but there are many issues to be resolved before making the change. Questions such as: where is the logo located on the server? How do I download the logo? What should I do if I mess up the new logo?

Change the logo is really very simple, which requires an understanding of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and basic knowledge of Joomla Admin area. This article assumes that the new logo and does not offer any practical tips on how to actually create the logo.

To get started, log in to your administration area and go to Joomla extensions > Management models.Select your default template and click "Edit". If your model has different styles, make note of "default" style Which is currently in use. This style is likely to have its own folder of images and CSS files.

Now click on "edit CSS".If you have a "default style" we will probably be a. css file with the name of style, if so, open it. If there is a default color, then search for "template" default.CSS. click its name to edit it, or click the radio button to the left and then click "Edit". This document to the word "search" logo. most likely you'll see something like this:

logo width: 288px; height: 58px; background: url (./images/dark4 .PNG)

Indicates the width, height, name and location of the logo.Note that in this case is the root directory of images and logo is called dark4 .PNG.

Next, open your FTP program and go to the location that you found to the logo file and download the file to your hard disk.Be sure to back up the file logo and put in a safe place in case you or your customer does not like the results.

Using a graphics program, make the changes you want to have the logo graphic and re-post it in the same position without changing the name. If you change the size of the image, you must change the width and height out originally did. This means that if the new logo is now 300 pixels wide, you may need to replace the current 288 pixels found in the previous example.

Review-JCH Joomla optimization Plugin-Speed Up Your Joomla site

Joomla websites may be slow, especially if you have a lot of extensions installed. Page slow speed drive customers from your website. Also, since Google might consider page speed in its ranks, it is more important than ever to get page fast speed. JCH optimizes, a plugin for Joomla, is a fast, free and easy to get your site immediately.

A customer called me and asked that I could optimize your site for speed. I checked his site and found that seemed to load pretty fast, or at least as fast as dozens of different sites I visit every week. But to get a quantitative measure of speed site, I installed Google Page speed and tested your site. The score of speed of the site was 75.Then I tried my site and the speed of the page was 67. Speed scores are like curves classification and 67 is failing.

Two speed biggest drains on my site were more CSS and JavaScript. Since almost every Joomla extension comes with your own style sheet and javascript, most have extensions, more than one speed exhaust on your site.

After some quick research, I found JCH optimizes, a plugin for Joomla that aims to speed up your site once I installed and configured JCH optimizes, my page rank went from 67 to 78, an improvement of point 11. A 78 puts port my site until a passing grade.
Certainly not the site faster, but not the slowest both.

In fact, I did some speed tests of the page to other high-profile sites and after that I felt more comfortable with my page speed improved.

Note:
All scores of speed of page are only the home page.Sub-pages are often much faster, because they don't have multiple media and images as home page.
apple.com writenowdesign.com-78-68 Consultants-74Macworld .com-71Microsoft .com-79 nytimes.com-64 Keep in mind that the more information you have on a page, the lowest speed of your page. Add movies, flash, AJAX and a lot of beautiful images, and the speed of your page will go down. Also, database of websites like Joomla and WordPress are inherently slower than static Web pages.

JCH optimizes accelerates your site by doing the following:
Minimizes the css and JavaScript. This means that removes all the ends of the line and file css comments. Combines in a single file.Combines JavaScript files into a single file.Gzips files css combined.Gzips the combined JavaScript file.In addition, you can minimize all output html, but I did not use this function. JCH is easy to configure, and you can choose to activate only some of the features. In fact, you may need to exclude some Joomla components or javascript files individually to optimize JCH because the combination of files and minimizing might create conflicts that break the JavaScript functions.

For example, I have excluded AllVideos Reloaded because optimizing javascript made it so my YouTube videos not playing in Internet Explorer 8 (no big surprise because Internet Explorer is the most annoying and buggy of all browsers).

There are some negative effects caused by JCH optimize, but if you know about them, you can work around problems. where JCH optimize is activated, all changes to JavaScript or css file is not immediately recognized. Accordingly, recommends using JCH optimizes only after all development work is done. If you need to make changes to a JavaScript or stylesheet file, first disable JCH and then make your changes. Once you are done with your changes, you can activate JCH Back on.

I recommend this plugin if you want accelerate instantly your Joomla site. Thanks to the developer of this great plugin: Samuel Marshall.

Joomla websites Optimization of speed-choosing a Joomla template

Joomla is a content management system open source quite popular. It is used not only for personal pages or small projects, but also for some corporate sites. One of the reasons for the popularity is the availability of thousands of extensions and templates for each Web project imaginable. While the plugins, modules and components are needed to add functionality to the original system, models of creating the Visual look of your website. You can choose from a plethora of free templates and also a lot of professional templates that you can buy for a small fee.

Choosing and installing a Joomla template is, at least in principle, a simple process. Find a template you like and that represents the style of your website, download the archive file and install it in the Joomla Admin interface. After you set as a default template is already visible to website visitors. but there are significant differences between Joomla templates.

Joomla template is a set of files that make up the backbone of every page. The root element is the index.php file that defines the layout and HTML that includes modules in default locations. Since this is a PHP code that must be processed in order to render the final HTML that is then sent to the browser. This HTML page can include many JavaScript, CSS and other files that may be required for viewing the correct page or website. However, those additional files can also make any site much slower. Most Joomla templates with many bells and whistles are much slower than simple.

Fast loading web pages should be the goal of every webmaster. Therefore it makes sense to control the model before it is adopted for the Web site.Control means looking at the page source and watching all the files that are loaded for each page. If there is more than a CSS file this can be the first indication of a model of poorly designed. lots of JavaScript files also means a long time to load the page.Of course, these files are probably necessary for the proper functioning of the website .you've just to make sure that the model does not upload any files that are not needed.

In General, select the basic template for the visual appearance and the requested module's positions. However, you should also pay attention to load times since the user experience should be an important aspect of any website.

The author likes simple websites that load quickly. an example is the http://i2canalyzer.org/ website that provides information about various I2C analysers. this website uses a single CSS and JavaScript files not. of course are still loaded some JavaScript file, but are not part of the model.

Learn how to add Google Gadgets to a Joomla site

Google offers a tremendous amount of "gadgets" that can be embedded into your site. These gadgets can be many things, including movie show times, currency converters and weather data. If you find one you like, or if you have a client that I would like to add one of them at their website, you must understand how to put them in a Joomla site.

The most important part of adding Google Gadgets for a Joomla site is to find where and how to put the code so that it appears only in the locations you specify your client or. This is relatively easy, and I will explain step by step.

The first thing to do is to find out where to get all the Google gadget.Go to google.com/ig/directory.Quindi, choose a gadget you'd like to have on your site and click "add to your webpage". Then click "get code" under the gadget, and copy the code and paste it into a text document and save it somewhere on your hard disk.

Next, in the area Access site administrator. go to extensions > "engine" and click "New". When prompted to make a choice, choose "Custom HTML" and click "next".Give the form a title and decide if you want the title to display in the browser for all visitors to see.

You will have to decide what position module and pages that the gadget will appear on the next.Hopefully it will be you have thought this out ahead of time and then can add the pages under the "Menu assignment" and choose the location pop-up menu form. you can always change both of these at any time you want if you don't like how the gadget will appear on certain pages.

Finally, in "Custom Output" click HTML at the bottom of the pane, if you are using an HTML editor, and then paste the code obtained by Google had saved a document previously text. If you are not using an HTML editor, simply paste the right code in custom output pane. now, click "Save" and your gadgets will be in the position module on specified pages.

Learn how to add a blog and a RSS feed for a Joomla site

Many times a client will ask you to add a blog to their website Joomla, or maybe you want to add one to your Joomla site. Really not that hard to do. Using articles, sections, categories, and the form of "Syndicate" to create an RSS feed, you can have a blog that allows you to enter regular messages and have all appear on a single page.

I will show you how to add a blog, but first I have to make a few assumptions. first, you already have a current version of Joomla already installed and secondly, can access the admin area of your Joomla installation and familiar with it.

The first thing to do is to access the Joomla Administrator. Now go to menu "Contents" and choose "managers" and create a new section, let's call it "Blog" and then click Save. then again go to the menu "Contents" but this time choose "category manager" and click "new" and give the category name as "my Blog". While still in category management, go to "pop-up" section and click section Blog created earlier and click Save.

Now that we have the section and category set up, let's create our first blog entry.Again, go to the menu "Contents" and this time choose "Article Manager". Click "new" and give the blog entry a unique name in the box "Title". "Section Under" Choose the section that you created earlier, which was "Blog".If there is only one blogger, the pop-up menu "Category" will default to it. If there is more then a blogger, you choose which one using the pop-up menu "Category".

Now enter some copy of the blog and on the right side of the page, go to "Parameters (article)" and enter any name that you want to show to the public in the box "Author Alias". Then, once again on the right side of the page, go to "Parameters (Advanced)" and make sure you change "Author name" and "Creation date and time", "view" and then click Save.

Now we must create a menu item for the blog, so that it can be found.Go to menu "menu" and choose the main menu. Click "New" button on the top right and then choose "Articles" under "internal Links" and on the next page, click "Category Blog Layout." in the title area, type in what you want your audience to see how the link to your blog and then go to "Parameters (Basic)" on the right and choose your category of blog. The rest of the parameters can be left as default and changed later, if desired.

Next, under "Parameters (component)", choose which icons to show in your blog, pdf, print and/or email. Once you can leave all other parameters as default and then make your changes later.Click Save.

Now let's create an RSS feed, so people can subscribe to your blog feed.To do this, go to the menu "Extensions" and choose "module Manager" click "New" button on the top right and then click "Syndicate" and the title of field damage as the title: "RSS feed for Blog" this is for you to easily find it in the management of forms. In "show title" click "No" and then choose the location you want the RSS feed to appear in "Location" and then under "Menu assignment" near the bottom left corner of the page, click on "select Menu (s) from the list" and then click the link for the Blog menu you created earlier.

Now, on your right, go to "Form parameters", "text" box, type in the text what ever you want to have RSS icon next to your. Finally, in "Format" choose RSS 2.0 or Atom 1.0, I usually use RSS. click Save.

You are done! Now you can create new blog entries over and over again, repeat the procedure above for new articles.

How to do SEO for your website JOOMLA in steps?

It is clear that a website must be optimized for better search engine rankings and then there are some key steps that must be followed to do SEO of a Joomla site. Here are the ten key steps:

1. make use of the keyword in the title tag

The keyword is the main clause and are making use of it in the title tag is the ranking of the page of your website during searches. you must be very careful while choosing the title tag as Joomla employs the same tag for the title of the article as well as for insite links.

2. use the anchor text of inbound link

Anchor text is the Group of words that are visible in blue and underlined are usually (link) to switch from one site to another. Using incoming links with keyword for your articles always help in ranking better.

3. Increase Link Popularity

The number of pages which link or direct the user to the page is known as link popularity. plus the number of sites that contain a link to the main Web page, the better.

4. does site maturity

There's not much you can do on the period of time that a site has been active, however, affects whether the registration of the domain is old.One should notice that spam websites aren't very old and therefore are not reliable. The age of the domain is rated to judge the reliability of the site.

5. Interlinking Popularity

This is the same as link popularity with a difference of links within the site; you can use the anchor links within your site under headings like ' Most Read ', "recent articles" and "related items" or "Archives". a site map that connects directly to your homepage is too effective.

The trick is to use the targeted keywords in the paragraphs that appear at the beginning and end. One can use the keyword density tool to check the density and then add the three top keywords to the Meta page title this way particular gets optimized page for a couple of words. plus, play with the font keywords and file names; use them as bold and strong tags.

Reliable hosting for Joomla Websites

You are using Joomla for your favorite site, and you have chosen a reliable Web hosting because you don't want to have very often your website inaccessible. Visitors are valuable and should always have access to your pages to buy things and make profit. But it's fairly reliable Web hosting?

Every website is vulnerable to many attacks. Hackers can gain access to files, databases or hosting account. In that case they can change your home page, delete some files or destroy completely the entire Web site. You can make your site Joomla guaranteed by applying the latest updates and periodic check for any issues. But this is not enough. what to do when your site is hacked or when the server fails and hosting companies cannot restore files and the database?

The solution is very simple. You should have your backup. This is the one thing you can count on. In principle you have to download all the Joomla files, make a backup of the database and this would be sufficient to restore the entire site at any time. But this is very unpractical.Download thousands of files is time-consuming. There must be a more practical for backup Joomla sites. And there's no!

All you have to do is install the JoomlaPack component. This component does everything for you. It stores all the Joomla files including the database file exported into one big file. This file contains everything you need to restore your Joomla site not only on this Web server but on any server. At the end of JoomlaPack backup simply download this file and store it in a safe location. just a suggestion. It is recommended to change the default backup directory JoomlaPack for security reasons. Nothing except the default directory for "backup" would be fine.

In case you need to restore the Web site you should know how to do it. You need an additional file to decompress the archive file. This is done with the file "index.php" kickstart that is included with JoomlaPack. In this file to prevent any unwanted access to the restore procedure, you must set a password. To restore your website simply upload both files to the Web server and start the Kickstart file comments.php.After entering the password, the archive file is unpacked. And now the most exciting part. After all the files are unpacked begins the process of installing Joomla. in this way you can customize this copy of Joomla site.So the restore process is very similar to the original installation of Joomla.

You should always make regular backups of your websites. you are solely responsible for them and the only person who can be sure that when something goes wrong, the website will be back up and running.

MosPasswort, a secure password plugin for Joomla websites

As usual, I had a client with a very specific request for their website Joomla: had some forms on their website that would not accessible to the public in General. Also, they didn't want their customers to sign up. Instead, they preferred to have a password to protect these forms. If they wanted a client to access the shapes, they would send the password to the client. I did a Google search and found MosPasswort Plugin for Joomla.

MosPasswort, a Joomla plugin, allows to password protect content elements of Joomla. Once installed the plugin, simply enter {password} in any page of Joomla you want to protect with a password. Then, when a user attempts to access a password-protected page, are presented with a screen of password. It is not necessary for the user to register or login. they just need to enter the correct password.

Why can't I simply use the default Joomla registered user function to protect a page?Good question ... of course you can use the protection of the default page of Joomla by forcing a user to register and login before viewing pages. But many users don't like to register or login.

The plugin Joomla MosPasswort lets you define a password for certain pages.Once you have set a security password for a page, the user simply enters the correct password to display the secure page.

This method can be very useful when you want the pages you want to protect from the audience. send the password to your customers and can access the page. no need to mess with registration and login. as long as it's not necessary to collect user data, this method is much faster and easier for the user.

This is a nice plugin Joomla, and it does exactly what it was designed to do.

Note: requires php5 on your Web server or you must make a small change to the file passwort .php.

Introduction to the Open Source Website - part 1

s-go Consulting has been creating Web sites to open applications, content management system source since 2003. It was in 2003 that an engineer who I worked with showed me a Harley Davidson Club site he had built from phpWebSite. He charriait my spirit. He had a database with the ACL user, cool photo albums, an interactive calendar and many other features. I could not do the same thing with sites of tens or that I had built since 1997 to FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Thus, I was not in the business of web design until I saw a CMS!

I was going through a rough period between 2002 and 2004. In 2001, I left the company I had founded, technologies of glyphs. I CEO and grew the 9 years to be a dominant brand on the market of audio production company. I bounced around for a bit of 2002-2004 looking for my next job large/offer. In 2003, I started a new business part-time, s-go Consulting my home. Once I saw the CMS phpWebSite in action, I became very interested and start working with it. In late 2004, I heard about an application called Mambo. It seemed much more polished and professional than phpWebSite and the community was much more active. I've immediately abandoned phpWebsite and began learning Mambo, as it was far superior. The model and the selection plug-in was much larger .j ' created in fact two Mambo sites for customers in late 2004, at the beginning of 2005.

After a few cases unsatisfactory job, I decided to start and run my a marketing consulting firm full-time human m.s - go Consulting launched offering a wide range of services, including sites Web CMS built with Mambo. I opened a new Office in my little village of Spencer, NY on April 1, 2005.

Then a crazy thing happened. In August 2005 after getting comfortable and happy with Mambo 4.5.2, there was a fork in the project as a group of core developers had a disagreement with Miro international Pvt Ltd, the original developer of Mambo. Developers of core development a website, Open Source Matters and September rebranded Mambo 4.5.3 as Joomla!1.0. I had my first serious decision.Continue to use Mambo or I trim my new Joomla group car? after having spent considerable time in Mambo forums, I knew that the real talent and players left Mambo and created Joomla. It was a facile.Nous decision not to build another Mambo site after September 2005.

Approximately 150 sites Web Consulting, s-go done live with Joomla and applications open source.Tandis we offer other services marketing (as video production, graphic design), Web site development and hosting is the largest part of our turnover / and we love the most.

Second part of this post talks about why we write this blog, and that it is intended for.

Joomla templates - themes WordPress with Artisteer

Us have bought Artisteer and have created and implemented a Joomla template on this blog site. We are not a club model or models, designers, of course. We joined clubs and purchased individual licences in the year. We have strongly changed Templates Club model to make "unique" to the client.

While I agree that he wrote a few unusual CSS, the (non-standard code module) it provides a great tool, even a designer. Furthermore, we envisage any module CSS code for our standard replacement models. You can create basic concepts and then modify those for each client. (vesrion 2.2 has been released today and added support for the module class suffix) I have heavy in my model change after I installed it. Everything seems easier to return to the Artisteer application. For me, designs keep getting easier for reasons of Internet marketing and Visual trends. This tool therefore allows us to create our own series model without using "suggest" Artisteer designs. And automates the process. And if we need module more or different positions, we will do to the main.Pas problem.

I think Rockettheme Joomlart and other designs are stunning. We will certainly still have those licenses. But with simple templates, I see us from this tool.Especially Joomla, and WordPress blog.Il sites is still a little time to create and customize the modèle.Mais, ultimately, it will be worth.

Introduction to the Open Source Website - part 2

So why (s-go Consulting) build us Open-source website blog? If you are in the business of web development, you know many answers to this question. Here's step some reasons:

Everyone is to act as heGet Rich FastBecome a famousSaving total consciousness (which is pleasant) So bored, Nothing Else to The reason for which that the launch now is because we offer blogs, including the Blogs of others, as a service and we wanted Joomla blogs both our own WordPress. We wanted to share our experience in the open Web design/development activity source with everyone and hope everything as other companies join us in conversation. We know that we can help many other developers and are looking for people to help us to so!We know that in the use of social networks like Twitter and Facebook that we can build a community of as (or even dissimilar) that shares a certain niveau.Vous people can see, we are first, a MARKETING firm.
And indeed, "open", "source" and "Web site" fairly well in the monthly search volume. Hey, this thing open source may not be a craze!

We come to it a little differently from companies that start as programmers. While we have created a module or both, and us edit and CSS, PHP, HTML, JavaScript and mySQL databases throughout the day, every day, we are not "programmers" in the classic sense of the word.We are not part of the Joomla core team (but we are not a member of the team of Joomla, Chad Windnagle resources directory). We do not work a template club. And we did not go to school of art design.(but some of our subcontractors!) But we have created brands and many of our clients watched grow and prosper when working with us. In addition, we receive enough good in this SEO thing.

We are part of a large group of developers to make life with applications open source. And we're Knallhart fans of this movement.Joomla is our CMS of choice, but we have implemented other applications open source like WordPress, Moodle, open land, osCommerce, LeVestiaire.com, PHPBB, VP - ASP (yuck), sugar, Achievo TrixBox, AsteriskNow and a few others.

Therefore, we start our trip to share successes and challenges of this entreprise.Nous share advice and we made the erreurs.Nous will be brutally honest and open to improving .If it resonate with you, join us in the community. Suivez_ us on Twitter, read our blog and give us your feedback.

Adding Tweetmeme to your Joomla site

Posted by: Qasim Virjee Wednesday, 30 January 2009 93 (3 votes, average: 3.33 of 5)

There are so many reasons your site visible on social networking sites and platforms to make - general visibility to increase and provide access to communities that the information that you otherwise might not spend time publishing in your posts.

Of course, Twitter is agile mouth to mouth social platforms on the Web and you may have noticed recently a pretty cool widgety stuff people are on your blogs/websites use to include a 'Retweet' - link and count how often a body has been tweeted - its powered by a website called 'Tweetmeme' and easily on any website - to install a CMS like Joomla or static html.

If you have a look at the Tweetmeme page that can not with the necessary embed code it too easy to say as it with your Joomla site - usage, and although it can circulation Joomla, a few plugins extension it did not offer an easy way to embed this going flexibility that is it for clean theming/template creation need. However, and what one needs a small change is the de-facto embed code.

Everything you have to do is:

Copy the following code (s), replace 'http://mysite.com' with your own root URL and: Twitterhandle with your Twitter handle to replace (if you Reweets, automagically incude @ Yourtwitterhandle can to delete this line from the code otherwise.)

For individual article template files (E.g. ' templates > Your_template > html > Com_content > article > default.php '):

For articles list pages - like section or category template files (E.g. ' templates > Your_template > html > Com_content > category > blog_item.php '):

The trick is then, take this code and add it to the appropriate version of your themethe template files - of course, you can see I have wrapped the code in a div 'Tweetmeme' called so you can then add in some CSS for the div where you format the widget Tweetmeme in your template to. you can include learn more Joomla templates and files, in the official documentation wiki.

Basically what we have done here is some PHP include the embed code the specific URL for each post - so the widget say clean works on individual article pages and several shows article at the same time displays.

* You can the widget in action here on this page above - just under the title of each post sehen.Probieren it out and retweet to see post, how it works!

I agree with dries that put more power into the hands of people who may not know or learn open source CMS code and that as your Lernkurven get less we steep jump more people see in creating and growing your Web sites; depending on the type of website you want to have.

We have of course seen * large * acceptance of WordPress for simple publishing (read: 'Blogging') under all sorts of people, in vicinity of Luddites of tech professionals bis.Wie people the functionality of this Web site will more sites every day rich feature sets would no doubt on your own; for a while to see still use have, although it does not require custom coding, I think, the role of 'Web Master' or 'Web Developer' or whatever-you-want-to-call-them around for quite some time.

This role will continue but can change, is on the bottom line concept and it happened with the right combination and configuration of 3rd party modules/Extensions; be it by only hand-holding/teaching people want to develop your own sites or actually putting the pieces together yourself.

I'm really excited for Mark Boulton's redesign of Drupal 7; right now a major obstacle for non-technical people using Drupal is its stratified admin interface, which often leads administrative requirements to developers create custom UX per project according to each customer.

People, Startup Repair for your Web projects we have taken a hard look at other open source CMS Joomla for example called and come up with a solution to help, called seedling (http://www.plantseedling.com/).

Seedling distribution of Joomla is cool because it comes with a suite of extensions configured and loaded and easily changeable topic; so people can develop your Web projects faster and with more makes comes with it under the Haube.Plus optional email/ticket support - new adopters can get help from Joomla when you need it.

Until much more user friendly I solutions think core open source CMS are installed as seedling really help bridge the gap for those who want to learn about DIY and/or cannot afford the services of Web developers is.

logo_1.pngFor some reason Joomla core has never natively been able to create custom forms - I'm not sure if this is due to it originally (pre-1.5 releases) allowing non-article content types to sit in the usual database tables that comprise your site, or something else... However, for years there have been multiple extensions floating around that could let you create forms out of basic elements, like text, email and file fields.

The most basic use of such extensions would be to get rid of Joomla's too-simple contact form system.  To do just that it seems that today there are a good 4 or 5 extensions sitting in the extensions directory that could help you out, though the more digging you do the more you'll find discrepancies between them.  Choosing the right form extension should be done with a balance of features to look for, such as:

A highly active and focused extension developer, A multitude of fields already supported, A large user base, Development of the extension with long-term focus; if the extension has been created to allow the developer to just create 1 or 2 forms on his/her website, it may not be able to do more in the future (given that their initial need for it was satisfied).

Back in 2007 I mentioned the release of a new extension called Fabrik - after spending some time comparing notes between a bunch of form components just now I am back in love with it!  You see, Fabrik takes the approach of forms being essential things for application-building - meaning that with Fabrik, you can create forms to not only email somewhere but store in your database which in turn can be displayed as lists through your site - you you can, for example, use it to build things like a custom library listing of books.

Fabrik was around before last year's CCK-in-joomla copycating began and is interesting in not replacing Joomla's core article content-type but side-stepping it with a flexible system for handling custom content that supports custom theming and additional plug-in support (yes, you can make your own field types).

Already available fields for forms created with Fabrik include; user details, captcha (with recaptcha!), text areas/fields, file uploads, images, database joins and more (including text displays to annotate fields - for 'help' purpose)...

I highly recommend popping over to http://fabrikar.com and checking Fabrik out... Be sure to also pour through their forums to answer any queries you may have before installing/getting started.  If you think there's a simpler, more powerful, or otherwise better form extension out there drop a comment below!

For smaller forms, like enhanced contact forms, I prefer ChronoForms.

But cool post... Quote posted by Jim on 2010-01-13 Great Post! I am definitely going to check out Fabrik!
I have used Breezing Forms by Crosstec formerly known as Facile Forms and it has great functionality.
What do you think about it? Quote Learning curve... posted by designguru on 2010-01-15 @munyah - I think you're right, there may be some easier-to-learn extensions which handle forms, but last I checked, the forums on Fabrik's site were fairly active, so it shouldn't be too hard for newbies to get the knowledge they need. (http://fabrikar.com/forums/)

@Jim - I remember Facile Forms from way back but haven't used it in a long time... Will look into Breezing and post back with a review soon!

q./ Quote RSForm Pro! posted by Ian on 2010-01-31 I did some extensive research for myself over a year a go now and though I didn't evaluate Fabrik I found other than simple forms all the extensions were very limited.
RSForm Pro!is a delight - you can format the forms to do almost anything and the form formating is not that difficult - indeed it is very flexible. I don't know java script but can copy and paste and I've been able to get forms is do some amazing things. RDFom Pro! is a paid for extension but the helpdesk is amazingly good and responsive. Quote jseblod cck? posted by Shola on 2010-02-17 Hey there! Have you tried jseblod cck? Or perhaps sobi2? I'm currently searching for a CCK and it's between fabrik and the 2 I just mentioned. For a blog or magazine style K2 wins right now. K2 works out of the box. For anything else I perfer FLEXIcontent for right now, but it still in beta, and does have some bugs. Jseblod is amazing, but has things built in that I don't need, and the back-end takes time to learn, and does not look to pretty (organized). I also needed a filterf field parameter which Jseblod did not have at the time. Maybe it has it now. FLEXIcontent has multiple field filter which I love. Quote www.thefactory.ro posted by Victor on 2010-02-22 yeah, I like FLEXIcontent, but hate using beta programs Quote posted by Aaron on 2010-02-27 I don't remember seeing Fabrik on the Joomla extensions page. I'll have to give it a try. I tried ChronoForms but couldn't get it to work at all. Hopefully Fabrik will do the trick for me. Quote jSeblod CCK, really crazy posted by dustie on 2010-02-28 To say you that the stable version of jSeblod CCK is out. With incredible list and search features.
I know all Joomla CCK and it's the most powerfull because it's alone to be integrated to Joomla interface, alone to be compatible with a lot of extensions, alone to allow you to design administration like your client want, alone to have search module generator so powerfull, alone...
Yes, you must learn how to use it, but then you do what you want.

I used before K2, but it's not flexible, like "flexi"content which is not compatible with a lot of Joomla extension and it's not integrated to Content Administration Interface of Joomla. Your client must learn again a new extension.

When you manage your content with jSeblod CCK, the user go on Joomla article manager and select not only to build a Joomla article but what you want... Quote www.cms-informer.com posted by Steven Narrow on 2010-03-09 it is good that the extension's development is long focused, it means we can expect updates. The best comment solution for Joomla

Posted by: Qasim Virjee on Monday, 14 January 2009 91 (2 votes, average: 5.00 of 5)

home_illustrate_basics.jpgI have advocated the benefits of control which own data for some time to keep - with Proliferance 3rd party hosted services on the Internet in recent years but I had to rethink, therefore it is important not to use hosting content or parts of your site.

The coolest new features I have seen hosted solutions have in recent few years on the net which encourage me rather than local, 3rd party providers in comment are now possible, a service to have as Disqus or IntenseDebate makes the entire System.Seine comment those feature for a site about a JavaScript call to your service!

This is really exciting for many reasons - including:

Not to worry about the version of your Joomla local comment on extension update must, you can comment on optionally included wherever you want on your site because its business of this service provider to your system as make kick-ass as possible, you know that you get all the latest features, when it comes out, you are free.

Recently, the good people @ Rockettheme published a great extension brings the simple or Disqus and IntenseDebate (which belongs to the WordPress people of automatic-) makes to use Joomla and I recommend it installing on your Joomla site today.

We were doing the conversion on like Rokcomment with IntenseDebate here whyjoomla.com this week (we use @ plantseedling.com have done), but are holding to see how a new version of iJoomlacomment looks if Akismet is working correctly and implemented reCAPTCHA...

Honestly if you are rolls out a new Web site who do not have old comments then its a no-brainer; Rokcomment to grab and breathe easy knowing you probably never have, log on to delete your site of spammy comments, that your site users find it easy, your thoughts on your article post.

WordPress vs Joomla, part 1

Posted by: administrator on Wednesday, 11 March 2009 83 (12 votes, average: 3,67 of 5)

wpvsjoomla_1.jpg Note:Instead of posting an exhaustive comparison of the two, this will be the first post in a series to look at, what distinguishes them apart, and why you would be better off, either in certain situations.

Both Joomla and WordPress are industry-leading open source publishing platforms for people without knowledge of HTML to blogs to create and publish a page on your site make fast and easy.

But are public, each for different core - built its expanding feature set about blogging is primarily a blogging tool, WordPress requires the use of FTP and custom code - so it is best suited for individuals and small organizations that's not to say that it cannot be used, an ongoing relationship with a Web Developer, providing problems.this upgrade and feature developments you create Web sites with creative aesthetics; very usefull but only that do this takes more elbow grease than with, say, Joomla.

Out-of-the-box, Joomla shows allows you to integrate a powerful menu system to create dynamic Web pages dynamic content - not only for blogs, but other lists or tables of content elements, with just a few clicks a button allows. Innately, Joomla sites can be grown by uploading subroutines (E.g. an e-commerce package or discussion forum) directly via the admin interface in a browser-no need for ftp or using any code; Joomla offers more powerful yet simple scalability than WordPress.

Another important function that sets apart the two, is the ability to edit posts from the front; Manage a site with Joomla because only Admins can much more quickly and visually understandable / a dashboard/admin page of the site, use see anyone with content must submit / edit permissions can just in the front end of a website login, see Edit button [or send new content] and make changes live on the site.

cbvsjs.jpgFor those new to these extensions, Community Builder is one of the oldest (and possibly most used) Joomla extensions.  It has a plugin system and lets you quickly develop user profiles for logged in members; with custom fields and member lists.  Because its Open Source and how long its been around, there are a ton of plugins to give you google maps of your members, on-going/live (facebook wall-type) listings of member activity on their profiles and more.

Jom Social isn't Open Source.  Its a commercial release from the Malaysian web development firm Azrul Studio.  They're well known for simple blogging and commenting extensions and have recently released Jom Social - which pretty much gives you the same functionality as Community Builder for $100+ but doesn't require must setup/configuration once installed.

There's been discussion in the Joomla forums about this topic before and I think people are most concerned about the lock-in factor of using commercial software plus the question of how integrated JomSocial is to Joomla itself.

Before I jump into a comprehensive review next week, I wanted to ask for your thoughts on Community Builder vs Jom Social. (Post comments! :) )

Of course would be better to support the development of CB.. would be a lot worther paying 10 € to CB and let the joomlapolis team work on it full time and having as result a robust and stable open source component than paying 100 € for Jom Social, what happen if the next year the developers stop supporting it? Quote I Switched to JomSocial posted by Jerry on 2009-04-02 I switched to JomSocial due to its functionality out of the box and that Community Builder seemed to move at a snails pace for updates. Quote Precisation posted by Federico Capoano on 2009-04-02 Of course if Jom Social would be released as open source it would be a lot better for the Joomla community. http://www.joomlashow.it/news-blog/joomla/jom-social-vs-community-builder/ Quote Gone too far with CB posted by Alig8r on 2009-04-02 JomSocial looks great but I've got so much invested with CB in terms of addons and plugins that integrate with Sobi2, Adsmanager, etc. I'm getting ready to start a userpoints program. It would be nice if there was a trial version of JomSocial. Quote I like the jom social posted by I am trying Jom social on 2009-04-14 I am a big fan of Cb. With that said I love jom social. its pretty pricey and I was worried that I was wasting my money on it. But after seeing it in action and playing with it for a little while I realized its worth every penny. A must have. def. Quote Waiting to Decide posted by Freddie Famble on 2009-04-14 I'm working on a revised website for my church. I want a social networking site for the members side. I'm new to Joomla and am reading a lot about both CB and Jom Social. I have demoed Jom Social but not CB. I'm following this blog very carefully to help me make up my mind.

FF Quote Jom Social all the way. posted by LG on 2009-04-16 The first community extension for Joomla I came across was CB. I just felt it was to bland and lacking, and wouldn't be a good fit for my project without a huge amount of work. Quote CB is good, but Jomsocial makes you more money posted by Ven Tasman on 2009-04-18 I really like CB. I have used it for some 3 years and integrated almost every plugin, module, hack or personal kitchen recipe. But in 9 days of jomsocial i published a community site (www.calendariofemenino.com), and in 2 days i had a community fully working. That is efficient.

I´ll switch everything to joomsocial soon. CB will remain only in my sites for the community of joomla users. Quote JomSocial--permissions control? posted by Annie Mac on 2009-04-20 I've been looking very carefully both at JomSocial as well as community builder. I was first introduced to JomSocial at the recent Denver Joomla Expo in Denver last December. I got a really good look at the program as well as have tested out the demo on the site quite extensively.

First off to agree with the other users, it looks like a more solid set up right out of the box. It has a true social look and feel to it. And it seems there doesn't need to be as much to be customized as far as hacks and plugins.

One thing I find that is severely lacking of jom social is permissions control. Since I'm particularly interested in using it as an application for an internal intranet site, it seems pointless to undermine company e-mail with internal 'messaging', not to mention lack of control/moderation. Quote posted by Mattew Barrie on 2009-04-21 How come jcommunity is not in the picture? :/ Quote Jomsocial is "Open Source" posted by Brent Friar on 2009-04-27 This is just a nitpick, but Jomsocial is open source, it's just not free. Open source means that you have access to the source code of the extension, which you get with Jomsocial. You are free to modify the source to your hearts desire.

I am looking forward to your review. I have used both and in my opinion there is a clear winner. Quote Community Builder annoyingly outdated posted by lars blackmore on 2009-04-27 I've been using CB for quite some time, but the more I try to move forward w/ my site the more I find CB to be a restraint. Case in point: organizing and validating extensions for the component seems to be of no concern to the developers -- something as simple as finding language plugins for CB is a major pain, and it seems to me as if the project is slowly but surely dissolving -- many initiatives have faded out, posts on the forums are left unanswered... Too bad, really, to see this happen to what was once the showcase open source extension package to Joomla. Quote JomSocial--only if you're a programmer/developer posted by alicia on 2009-04-27 only get JomSocial if you're a coder who is able to spend hours upon hours making modifications and fixing problems (like basic issues like search problems (you can only search names), issues with photo uploads not working (think is currently a jomsocial support topic with over 150 posts and thousands of views), and crazy text sizing problems. This is all while CB is obviously cheaper and has a better searching feature.

for $150 it might not be worth it (unfortunately, you can't see the support forum until after you purchase the product and in the pre-sales forums it looks like everything is peachy). i have been frustrated with JS since I bought it, posting questions in the forums all of the time. they bill it as if anyone can use it, but i think it's hard if you're not an experienced developer who can work with databases and do extensive analysis necessary to figure out how to fix your issues. it takes too much time. Quote posted by James on 2009-05-01 I am so lost...I dont whih one i should use Quote Round 1 posted by Saphirus on 2009-05-05 Well, round 1 and round only, CB knockout Social. Quote Joomla developer posted by Joomla developer on 2009-07-15 Well Joom social is really good but with Community builder we can have SOBI2. Sobi2 is really large component and with it so many things can be manged very easily.

Eg if you are running a book directory you can store some books manufacture with address, retails, distributors with country, city, address every thing

So community builder is really vast. Quote Hmmmm posted by Chris on 2009-11-05 The thing is with Joomla is that the modules and components that are available are what make Joomla so great. I dont know much about community builder - but Joomla is brilliant in my mind because of the additional items available.

Because I own it! Quote Where is the review or round 2? posted by Kathleen on 2010-01-17 Just wondering if you got any further on this subject. I'd love to see a comparison between the two. Quote posted by Behzad on 2010-01-21 Good content that was really usefull Quote posted by Behzad on 2010-01-21 Good content that was usefull Quote JomSocial Kicks CB AsS posted by auni on 2010-01-28 If you think CB beets JS, you need to go to JS and check some of it out... Ha ha ha... Jomsocial is Off the freakin Chain... been with it for a few months... and it's amazing... I grant it, I'm not the most intelligent person on Earth, but I'm happy to promote JS like Crazy... Made my life easy, and i'm a Novice Developer... Never went to any schools or anything, but just good with computers... so JS is good for me... if this doesn't work, I don't care, I'm a little drun... and JS is Cool... Ha ha ha... CB... freakin joke! Quote www.joomlanews.ro posted by Andrei Rubin on 2010-02-22 I prefer JomSocial, because should have waited for ages for CB's updates with fixes Quote CB is hard to get around posted by Stephane on 2010-06-22 I've tested CB and it's hard to get around. Also in my case I need a paid membership system and the CB solution is pretty expensive. So all together Jomsocial wouldn't be more expensive in my case.
I think in term of look and feel Jomsocial is way above CB.
By the way when is round 2 coming???? Quote dush2-nov.ru posted by Bezroksana6 on 2010-07-23 ?????????? ???????, ????? ???????????

Quote posted by Zack Morris on 2010-09-01 At my firm we typically develop outside of Joomla, but we've done a number of Joomla sites, and a CB and Jomsocial site.

I can definitely see where, depending on the expectations of the social network, CB is preferred. We're using it for a union and have a bunch of outside-of-the-box customization and modules, which is necessary. Works for them.

But for an out-of-the-box facebook-like social network, Jomsocial rocks my socks. We use it for a niche lifestyle community, and so far it far exceeds CB with little effort.

I really don't expect a ton of responsive support, this stuff is so cheap. I would set personal expectations to be prepared to have design, development, programming resources in either case if you're going to deviate from the default installation.

Otherwise there are plenty of real "commercial" social network developers that you can pay $25k for a hand-holded experience in deploying.
